Evaluation Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

Throughout the beggining of the Media course of filming I felt as if I learnt the basics of filming like shot reverse shot and high angle or low angle. As well as controlling the camera badly when it came to filming, when recording a production my hand used to shake whilst handling the camera, and I also believe that our ideas was also not that good to a standard we should of actually produced.

Below is our preliminary movie.

As the months progressed I began to learn new techniques I was able to add such techniques as sounds, tranistions, as well as a title sequence. Also my editing skill improved dramtically due to the fact that I began to use many softwares such as Soundtrack Pro, Livetype and Final  Cut Pro.

Below is our latest movie production.

As you can clearly see our latest movie is much more better compared to our preliminary movie, we used a wide range of shots as well as having a superb storyline compared to our preliminary as well as our handling of the camera improved.

What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During this As Media Studies course we have used various different types of equipment, programs and forms of social media. 

For my media production we used a various type of softwares, such as Livetype, Soundtrack Pro and Final Cut Pro, all these softwares link to one another, such as importing sound from Soundtrack pro and then inserting words from Livetype and then importing all of them on to Final cut pro and then editing out the scenes we don't need or adding any possible transactions. 

We used a memory card to save our work on the memory card, we then inserted the memory card on to a USB and then stuck it on to a computer to continue editing our work. We also used a hardrive to save our work as well as to start the work.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? How will you attract/address your audience?

OrangeMedia is also a low budget production company so we have to find means of advertising that are not mainstream ideas. This would primarily be the internet. The internet is used to advertise most small independent media production, marketing and attracting an audience (target audience).  Sites like Youtube, Vimeo and Facebook can be used to show adverts create webpages and web roll-overs, and also mini trailers. After putting it on all these marketing sites we hope to get some sort of recognition so that hopefully we can make some money and eventually make 200 DVDs to sell to the public. 

Below are a list of institutions that have distributed my product are;

Vimeo; where all the AS students media products have been uploaded.

Youtube; where candiasmedia uploaded my thriller opening. As you can see we also got 127 views on utube as well as a positive comment.

Facebook; Here is where I uploaded my video on to Facebook, we got 20 likes in total, this means that a majority of the people liked watching it, also we got some nice positive comments, telling us how they felt of the video.

The Screen On The Green; where on the 5th, April,2011 all AS students thriller opening was released for a once in a life time opportunity.

Indie movies: which is commited in supporting independent films and filmakers.

Dog Woof: which is an leading independent distributor.

Evaluation - Question 2

 How does your media product represent particular social groups

The social group our movie aims for is teenagers as of the regions of 16-19 year olds, due to the fact that the victim is wearing modern day clothings, and teenagers can relate to this.

As you can see both the characters are wearing modern day clothing and acting normal, to what a normal civilian would do.

EVALUATION: Question 1 - Forms and Conventions of title thriller sequence

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media  products?

In our production, we used our title sequence with great purpose as it is to capture the true genre of film we're trying to aim for. (suspense/mystery thriller)

The intertextuality between our title sequence is similar to many other productions.

We followed each code and convention, below is the intertextuality of our thriller and the taking of pelham 123

EVALUATION

Personally, I think our media film came out pretty well, we succeeded in what we aimed for. We aimed to produce a high quality film that is in the thriller type genre and we achieved our goal.

Our film was about a normal person in his household reading a book and then suddenly an mysterious figure comes across the glass door. The victim in this film comes out to be paranoid and worried, he's anxiety leads him to get some water to calm himself down, but that's when we first see the mysterious figure, after exiting the kitchen the victim looks to his left to see if the theres anything suspicious going on but after he looks at the door he suddenly the figure comes across the door again, but by then the victim is already out the door. The victim then goes to the living room with his glass of water to continue reading the book. Then suddenly a loud knocking is heard, the victim looks towards the hall way with a great deal of caution, he goes to open the door but there's nobody there, he returns in to the house all confused, he then looks to his right with a great deal of anxiety, then thats when you see the figure in the household for the first time, then all of a sudden the glass drops from the victims hand, the glass shatters in to pieces, then all of a sudden the victim drops to the floor with blood pouring out his head/mouth.

If I had more time then I would of liked to change certain scenes, due to the fact that some scenes were a bit rushed and I feel if I had more time then we could of re-take those specific scenes and made it much more better.

Overall, I think our film came out pretty well and my fellow colleagues but their amount in to the work.

Rough cut with sound

This is our rough cut of our media production. We edited the scenes and added a soundtrack in to the production, but we still need to add the title sequence in to it, this is currently being in the making.

 

Editing Soundtrack

Here the group edited the soundtrack. We used an instrumental from Youtube, but we made sure that it was Copyright free, so we're enable to add it on to our production. Abid and Fuzail originally found the soundtrack, but Nahid and Viet thought we should alter the soundtrack so it fits perfectly in to our film.


Below are images of the whole group editing the soundtrack in how we wanted it, adding numerous amounts of effects to make it look more professional.

mise en scene: PLANNING

At first, we decided to go to Abid's house to film but the location seemed quite very far, it would take averagely an hour on the bus, we then decided to go to Nahid's house but that was also far for the liking of the team members.

Therefore we decided not to film there. However after turning down the chance to film in Nahid and Abid's house we had no other location to film so Fuzail decided we should film in his house. It would only take 30 minutes to get there from college and it was a great place to film.

Title sequence for Shatter -IDEA

This is an idea of how we wanted our title sequence to look like. This was taken from Youtube, and was designed by somebody completely random.

As you can see since the title of our film production is called "Shatter" and this clip shatters, we wanted it to look like this as much possible.

Opening To Title Sequence

During our editing, we considered many options on what to put as our opening to the film. Some suggested that we place professional openings which are used by world class movie makers..

                                                       Fuzail thought of Columbia.

However, we decided not to use any of them big companies, as the audience will think that the film was made by a big Hollywood company and had a big film budget, but it obviously wasn't. So then we decided to use the CANDIStudios opening, this is also available to everyone that is doing Media.

Planning - Soundtrack

As a group we sat down and discussed which type of sounds we should have in our film.

At first we played around with the idea of including music from other films, but this idea was soon shattered by our teacher, who said that we couldn't add copyrighted music into our film.

We then looked for music which wasn't copyrighted, but to no avail as hardly any of the songs mentioned if they were copyright protected, thus we couldn't take the risk.

Then we decided that we would add relevant sounds into the film as we go along. This meant that there wouldn't be a specific song throughout the film, but more instruments and actual sounds of things in our film, such as the sound of glass breaking and etc.


Below is the instrumental we're going to use in our film production. However we decided to alter the original music, so we can add our marks on to the soundtrack.

Below are two instrumentals that we found and thought we should use in our film production. They both fit in to our film as a whole.

Planning - Costumes

We had to choose which clothes we want our characters to wear.

THE VICTIM - Nahid Miah

The use of these clothes gives the audience that the person is an 'average joe', and that nothing is unusual about him. Nahid described to the group what type of shirt he should wear, and as a group we thought that would be perfect for the victim to wear, as it is something a normal person would wear.

THE KILLER - Jakir Hossain

We then had to choose what the killer would wear. We wanted to create a mood of mystery surrounding the killer, thus we wanted to include minimum amount of shots on him, also we wanted these shots to be very unclear so we used a cap and black jacket to hide is appearance as much as possible.

We decided Viet's jacket was perfect for the killer to wear, as it is fully black with no other colouring involved. We also decided that Fuzail's hat was also perfect for the killer to wear, as it is also fully black with flaps. Both these costumes are important as it's essential for the killer to wear blacked out clothing.

Slow motion

We need to add slow motion in to the filming to add more effect. Below are step by step instructions in how we added the slow motion effect.

As you can see we made the rate to 20.00%, this added a certain effect on to the scene.
